Statement regarding LockBit claims

Earlier this morning we became aware of tweets from LockBit, the cyber-criminal gang, claiming that they had compromised Darktrace’s internal security systems and had accessed our data. Our security teams have run a full review of our internal systems and can see no evidence of compromise. None of the LockBit social media posts link to any compromised Darktrace data. We will continue to monitor the situation extremely closely, but based on our current investigations we are confident that our systems remain secure and all customer data is fully protected.

Leading Canadian Local Distribution Company Selects Darktrace

Darktrace, the leader in Enterprise Immune System technology, has today announced that Energy+ has deployed its self-learning technology into the core of its network.

Based in Ontario, Canada, Energy+ is a local distribution company that provides electricity to over 64,000 residential, business, industrial, and institutional customers, covering roughly 1,700 square kilometers of power lines. Energy+’s network oversees the company’s infrastructure, in addition to the sensitive information of thousands of stakeholders. As such, it needed a tool that could take a proactive approach to cyber security and provide complete visibility into the internal network.

Shortly after installing Darktrace inside the network, the technology alerted Energy+ to a serious anomaly. A user was spotted going to a malware site in Russia – an incident missed by every legacy tool in its existing security stack. Due to the effectiveness of the Enterprise Immune System, Energy+ was able to take immediate action, and mitigated the threat before any damage was done.

Powered by probabilistic mathematics and unsupervised machine learning developed by specialists from the University of Cambridge, Darktrace works by learning a ‘pattern of life’ for every network, device, and user.  Using this understanding of ‘self’, it can then detect potentially malicious anomalies at their nascent stages, in real-time – without the use of rules, signatures, or prior assumptions. Armed with the Enterprise Immune System, Energy+ now has complete visibility of its network, and enjoys greater confidence in its ability to respond to emerging threats, even in spite of a rapidly-evolving threat landscape.

Darktrace’s innovative machine learning approach means that our days of battling at the border are over,” commented Paul Martinello, Vice President of Information Technology, Energy+. “Before Darktrace, we had no way of preventing unknown threats, and we were taking a reactive approach to cyber defense. Now, the Enterprise Immune System secures our network from the inside out, allowing us to catch even the most sophisticated forms of threat at their earliest stages.”
In an ever-changing threat landscape, all Canadian companies are at risk for compromise,” commented David Masson, Country Manager for Canada, Darktrace. “We are happy to be supporting Energy+ in its initiative to take a proactive approach to cyber security in an effort to stay ahead of these sophisticated threats. By deploying the Enterprise Immune System, Energy+ is leading the way in terms of employing innovative machine learning for cyber defense.”
